IMA Chooses Comfy Sacks For Toby Theater

The 558-seat Randall L. and Marianne W. Tobias Theater at the Indianapolis Museum of Art (IMA) is called “The Toby.”  At the Toby, you’ll be able to enjoy a wide range of films and other performances.

In addition to the screening events they offer another treat for people – Comfy Sacks bean bag chairs.

The museum features several red Comfy Sacks.  People are able to sit and enjoy these bean bag chairs for a selection of different events.  The question is if this could become a trend.

Museums are fighting with conventional movie theaters, art galleries, comedy clubs, and other venues for people’s time and money.  Many museums have had to cut back due to decreases in attendance and contributions.  While getting new installations or exhibits is one way of bringing people in, another way is with new innovative kinds of seating.

Bean bag chairs are available in a wide variety of sizes so they are designed to fit a wide variety of varying body shapes and sizes.  Also they are available in an extensive range of colors and fabrics.  This means that they are versatile to fit in New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, or at the Brooklyn Children Museum.  Considering that most people sit in uncomfortable chairs in their cars, at work, and in restaurants this would be a way of allowing people to relax and enjoy as well as give them a reason to come back.
